Lock Replacement and Repair in Alicante

New cylinders, anti-bump upgrades and locks that have grown stiff or loose, on the timber, steel and armoured doors of Alicante’s flats and houses. You get the quote, naming the part, before the visit is booked.

Four good reasons to change a lock

You have just moved in

Nobody knows how many copies of the old key the previous tenants, owners or builders kept. A new cylinder takes minutes and ends the question.

A key has gone missing

Lost with something that carries the address, stolen with a bag, or kept by someone who should not have it.

The key has become hard to turn

A cylinder that sticks is wearing out. Replaced on your schedule, it costs less than opening a door it has finally locked shut.

The cylinder is basic

Many older doors still have cylinders that give way to bumping or snapping. An anti-bump, anti-snap cylinder fits the same hole.

What Alicante’s climate does to a cylinder

AEMET puts the average relative humidity in Alicante at 66 per cent, and flats facing the sea along the Postiguet, Albufereta, San Juan and Urbanova take salt on the wind as well. The brass pins inside a cylinder slowly corrode and the key starts to catch.

Graphite or a dry PTFE spray helps for a while; oil and household lubricants collect grit and make it worse. Once a key needs jiggling every time, the cylinder is near the end of its life. More in our guide to locks by the sea.

Homes that sit empty for months

About one home in five in Playa de San Juan is classed as empty in the city’s housing study. A lock that is not turned for months is more likely to seize, and the first key turn on arrival is the one that snaps.

If you are leaving for the season, a service visit before you go is cheap insurance. If you are coming back, here is what to check on arrival.

What we fit and repair

  • European profile cylinders, standard and anti-bump, anti-snap and anti-drill grades
  • Cylinders for armoured doors (puertas blindadas), including the escutcheon plate that protects them
  • Multipoint locks on timber and steel doors
  • Surface-mounted locks and deadbolts for gates, storerooms and garages
  • Repairs to lock bodies, latches, handles and keeps that no longer line up

A sliding terrace door or an aluminium or uPVC frame is a different mechanism with its own page: sliding and terrace door repairs. After a forced entry, the right page is making a forced door secure.

How a lock replacement visit is booked

  1. Photo and quote

Send the lock and the edge of the door by WhatsApp, or ask for a written quote by email from the contact page. The price names the cylinder.

  2. A time that suits you

Including early mornings and weekends. In Santa Cruz, we agree where to meet you at street level.

  3. Fitted and tested

Old cylinder out, new one in, every key tried in front of you, invoice sent.

Lock replacement questions

Do I need a new lock or just a new cylinder?
Usually just the cylinder, the part the key goes into. It is the part that wears and the part burglars attack. The lock body inside the door is only replaced when it has failed mechanically.
What does anti-bump mean on a Spanish cylinder?
Antibumping cylinders are built so that a specially filed bump key cannot knock their pins into the open position. Good ones also resist drilling, picking and snapping. The packaging lists which attacks it has been tested against.
Can you match the new lock to my other doors?
Yes, we can fit keyed-alike cylinders so one key works the front door and the back or garden door. Say so when you ask for the quote, as they are ordered as a set.
How much does a cylinder change cost?
It depends on the size and grade of cylinder. You get a written or WhatsApp quote naming the cylinder before the visit is booked.
